History of the Nalanda College Old Boys' AssociationSouth Australia (Nalanda OBA SA)

The Nalanda College Old Boys' Association – South Australia (Nalanda OBA SA) was established through the vision and dedication of Nayan Perera, with the invaluable support of Sampath Wijesinghe. Recognising the need to bring together Old Nalandians residing in South Australia, Nayan Perera took the initiative to form an organisation that would foster friendship, networking, cultural values, and a lifelong connection to their alma mater.

Upon its establishment, Nayan Perera was elected as the inaugural President, while Sampath Wijesinghe served as the founding Treasurer. Duminda Kottachchi was appointed as the association's first Secretary.

The first official meeting of Nalanda OBA SA was held at the residence of Dr. Lalith Gamage, marking the beginning of a strong and supportive brotherhood built on the values and traditions of Nalanda College.

As the association continued to grow, Sanjeewa Goonewardene succeeded Duminda Kottachchi as Secretary and served in that role until May 2024, contributing significantly to the administration and development of the organisation during its formative years.

In 2024, the members resolved to appoint a new Executive Committee to guide the association into its next phase of growth. The newly elected leadership comprised:

President

Lahiru Wickramasinghe

Secretary

Harshana Saparamadu

Treasurer

Isuru Jayageeth

Under the leadership of the new Executive Committee, one of the association's most significant milestones was achieved. In September 2024, the Nalanda College Old Boys' Association – South Australia was officially incorporated under the Associations Incorporation Act 1985 (South Australia). This formal registration established Nalanda OBA SA as a legally recognised not-for-profit community organisation, providing a strong governance framework and a solid foundation for its future growth and service to the Old Nalandian community in South Australia.

The incorporation marked the successful completion of the association's founding chapter, laying the groundwork for future generations of Old Nalandians to strengthen their bonds, preserve the values of Nalanda College, and contribute positively to both the Sri Lankan and Australian communities.
